Use a trap to collect solvent and other volatiles that are pumped off using the vacuum line in the fume hood.

A cold trap will collect and freeze volatile chemicals before they reach the pump. Be sure to close the system and turn off the pump to prevent manifold contamination and prevent volatile chemicals from reaching the pump. Allow the trap to thaw, empty the contents into the proper waste container, and clean the trap before reconnecting it to the manifold and vacuum lines.
