Use only the amount of light that is needed for the task at hand. For example, use a task lamp instead of overhead lights.

If you are working at your desk, and not at the bench, there is no need for all of the lights in the lab to be turned on; use a talk lamp instead.  For more information about optimizing lighting in laboratories, please click here.
